Bio and Artist Statement

Lance Allen is a painter and photographer. His latest collection on film has been over five years in the making. Just as painting turned to surrealism with the rise in popularity of film, Lance set out to create something different and more abstract as film gives way to digital photography. He traveled the country with a box camera, capturing multiple exposure images on a single plane of film. Out of the can, the negative is completely opaque, and the details are not visible. However, with the help of modern technology, he is able to transform the film into an ethereal, rich work. Half cosmic, half intentional, his painting-like images combine classicism with contemporary art.
